Our Mission

QFin UWA exists to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application in quantitative finance. We provide Western Australian students with rigorous mathematical training, hands-on trading experience, and direct pathways to careers in quantitative finance.

Through our comprehensive curriculum, industry partnerships, and practical projects, we develop the next generation of quantitative analysts, traders, and researchers.

Stefan Ciutina

President

Stefan is completing a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Software. He joined QFin at the beginning of 2025 without much background in quant finance — but his enthusiasm for the field saw him dive headfirst into the community and industry alike. This year, he's interning at two of our sponsor firms as a software engineer.

Cameron Kelly

Head of Education

Cameron is a fourth-year Bachelor of Science student majoring in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. He interned at Optiver in 2025–26 and will return as a graduate trader in 2027. As Head of QFin's Education Program, Cameron is committed to helping students develop their understanding of trading and achieve their goals within QFin.

Tep Nguyen

Head of Technology

Tep is a Bachelor of Advanced Computer Science (Honours) student majoring in Artificial Intelligence. Since joining the trading team in Semester 1 this year, Tep has taken a strong interest in supporting the club's technical initiatives. This semester, Tep is focused on developing the software infrastructure that supports the trading team, while also preparing for the 2027 application cycle for software engineering roles at trading firms.

Stanley Alim Santoso

Secretary

Stanley is a third-year student pursuing a combined Bachelor of Science in Frontier Physics and Master of Physics. He is currently researching gravitational wave detection using deep learning. After completing a research studentship at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research modelling globular clusters, he developed an interest in quantitative trading through its strong overlap with coding, mathematical modelling, pattern recognition, and problem solving.

Sean Du

Treasurer

Sean is a third-year Bachelor of Advanced Computer Science student. He will be interning at Optiver this summer after receiving an internship offer through the Future Focus program in 2025. In addition to his Executive role, this semester Sean is part of the trading team, learning from members with industry experience and further developing the skills needed for success in quantitative trading.

Joshua Fry

Immediate Past President

Joshua is a Bachelor of Science (Honours) student majoring in Mathematics, having previously completed a Bachelor of Philosophy in Engineering Science. He has interned at Jane Street and IMC, and will return to IMC as a graduate trader in 2027. Through both his academic studies and industry experience, Joshua has developed a strong interest in research, particularly when applied to quantitative finance.
